Calgary is a vibrant city located in the province of Alberta, Canada. Nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, it's about an hour's drive from the stunning Banff National Park. Calgary is known for its beautiful landscapes, including prairies, mountains, and rivers.
When it comes to dining out in Calgary, you'd be surprised that the city is bursting with an incredible array of culinary delights. As someone who has spent a lot of time both living in Calgary and visiting as a tourist, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the diverse and iconic food scene here. From upscale dining to cozy diners, here are my top 10 favorite restaurants in Calgary, each unique in its own way.
1. Ten Foot Henry
Vegetable-centric and downright delicious, Ten Foot Henry is a must-visit, even if you’re not a vegetarian. Their Caesar Salad, Tomato dish, and Gigli pasta are standout items that keep me coming back every single time I visit.
2. Major Tom
This is my go-to spot for impressing out-of-towners. Located on the 40th floor of a high-rise, Major Tom offers unparalleled views of Calgary. The food and drinks are both consistently amazing—I usually go for the pasta, but honestly, everything on the menu is top-notch. Pro tip: You’ll always need a reservation. Make sure to time your reservation around sunset for the best views in town.
3. Anejo
Anejo is all about the vibe, but also so tasty. This Mexican restaurant is a feast for the senses, with incredible table-side guacamole that will change your life - trust me, get the guac. Pair it with their top-tier margaritas and fish tacos for a meal you won’t forget.
4. Galaxie Diner
Galaxie Diner is an iconic breakfast spot in Calgary. It’s tiny, with just a handful of tables, so expect a wait—but they keep you caffeinated with sidewalk coffee refills. The diner’s atmosphere is classic mom-and-pop, and while the food isn’t michelin star winning, it’s the perfect diner breakfast at a fair price.
5. Model Milk
When you go to Model Milk, it’s all about the fried chicken. Seriously, you have to get it. They used to have the most amazing gnocchi on the menu—if it ever comes back, run, don’t walk. The drinks here are also excellent. Reservations are typically needed on weekends.
6. Una Pizza
Una Pizza serves the best pizza I’ve ever had, hands down. Their Kale Caesar Salad and Margherita Pizza are life-changing. Between the two, I can't decide which I love more. Pro tip: make sure you use the chili oil on the pizza.
7. Native Tongues
This is a must-visit for Taco lovers. My personal favorites are the Frijoles, Hongos, and Taco de Pescado - my mouth is literally watering thinking about them. Native Tongues also serves up a mean margarita.
8. Lulu Bar
Lulu Bar is a hotspot on 17th Avenue, known for its aesthetic and popularity. The food is great, but I often find myself here for the drinks. They have an impressive cocktail menu, and some drinks even come in tiki glasses!
9. Chianti’s
Chianti’s holds a special place in my heart. It’s my families favorite with fresh pasta, especially the spinach fettuccine, and delicious free bread at every table. The service can be hit or miss, and while the food hasn’t won any awards, I think it's truly incredible and belongs on this list.
10. Shokunin + EIGHT
Chef Darren MacLean’s restaurants, Shokunin and EIGHT, are perfect for the foodies in your life. MacLean, winner of "The Final Table" on Netflix, offers an exceptional dining experience. If you can snag a spot at the coveted EIGHT, you’re in for a culinary adventure.

Whether you’re a Calgary native or just passing through, these restaurants will give you a taste of the city's kickass food scene. From jaw-dropping views to guacamole that’s basically a religious experience, and food that'll make you wanna lick the plate. Get ready to eat your heart out, folks! Bon appétit, bitches.
