Nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, it's about an hour's drive from the stunning Banff National Park. Calgary is known for its beautiful landscapes, including prairies, mountains, and rivers.

Whether you're looking for a cozy pub, a trendy cocktail bar, or a lively night out, Calgary has got you covered. Here are my top spots to grab a drink in this vibrant city:

The Ship and Anchor

My absolute favorite place, The Ship and Anchor, is a must-visit institution on a night out. It's a bit of a dive bar, but I think it's beautiful. The atmosphere is always buzzing, and they even have punk rock bingo, which is a surprisingly good time. It’s the perfect spot for a laid-back pint with friends, and the perfect people watching patio in the summer.

Anejo

This Mexican hotspot not only serves up incredible table-side guacamole, but also some of the best margaritas in town. Their tequila and mezcal selection is impressive. If you’re in the mood for a aesthetic atmosphere and killer drinks, Anejo is your place.

Lulu Bar

Lulu Bar is a stunning spot on 17th Avenue, known for its beautiful decor and delicious drinks. Their cocktail menu is inventive and fun, with some drinks served in tiki glasses. It’s a popular spot, so expect a lively crowd and a great time.

Major Tom Bar

Located on the 40th floor, Major Tom Bar offers unparalleled views of Calgary. The drinks here are as impressive as the view, with a sophisticated cocktail menu that never disappoints. You’ll always need a reservation, so plan ahead. Make sure to time your reservation around sunset for the best views in town.

Paper Lantern

Paper Lantern is a hidden gem, offering a cozy and intimate setting with fantastic cocktails. The entrance can be a bit tricky to find, so be prepared to search a little. Once inside, the atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, making it a great spot for a quiet drink or a casual date night.

Home and Away

If you're into sports bars, Home and Away is a must-visit. By day, it's the perfect place to catch the game, but come nightfall on weekends, it transforms into a full-blown nightclub. You can cheer on your team and then head downstairs to dance the night away to beats from a local DJ.

Leopold’s Tavern

Leopold’s Tavern is a quintessential dive bar with a laid-back vibe and friendly service. It's a cozy spot for a casual drink with friends. If dive bars are your jam, this place is a total classic.

One Night Stan’s

One Night Stan’s is all about good times and cold drinks. With its quirky decor and lively atmosphere, it's the perfect spot to let loose and enjoy a night out. Their cocktails, games, and prime location make it a standout favorite. Just a heads-up: there’s usually a lineup later on weekends and sometimes a cover charge.

Porch

Porch is an Instagrammer's dream come true. It's the perfect place to sip a drink while swinging—literally—at the bar. With a diverse and refreshing drink menu, Porch is ideal for any occasion, whether you're snapping pics or just enjoying a unique vibe.

Ol' Beautiful

Ol' Beautiful is my favorite local brewery, serving up some of the most fantastic craft beers in town. The cozy, inviting taproom is perfect for sampling their unique brews and kicking back with friends. Beer lovers, this spot is a must-visit! Plus, they've got a big patio in the summer that's perfect for soaking up the sun with a cold one in hand.

Confluence Distilling

For something a bit different, head to Confluence Distilling. This local distillery offers a range of handcrafted spirits and delicious cocktails. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the staff is passionate about their craft, making it a great spot for a unique drinking experience. You need to try their xMaté Plus - I think it's my all time favourite drink.
